(above: SSIG History Trip, University of Washington, w/ Dr. Merendino, former Chair of Surgery, and pioneer of the "Merendino Procedure"

Hope everyone is doing well on exams, boards studying, etc.

The Department of Surgery has invited us to their faculty dinner, thank you if you responded to the evite, unfortunately all available seats are taken. At the dinner the winners of MEDSTARS will be announced. The dinner will be held on April 27th at the faculty lounge.

Even if you will not be able to come out to the dinner, there is still a way for you to be involved. We're looking for this years Outstanding Faculty Member in the Dept of Surgery. If there is an attending out there that was an inspiration mentor to you, or really helped guide you through your surgery rotation, or encouraged you with research or just really reminds you of someone that embodies what every professor should be, nominate that person! Email us at ssig.usc@gmail.com . The selected faculty member will have their name engraved on the plaque in the Surgical Skills Center.

2009 SSIG BOARD
Thank you to everyone that applied for an 09-10 position for the SSIG board. We enjoyed reading your applications and will notify you soon if you are selected for a board position. One of the great things about SSIG is that everyone can be involved, so even if you aren't a board member your input is always taken into consideration, just talk to a board member and it can happen.

Hey everyone, hope exams are treating you well. Just a couple quick points

thanks for coming out to the meeting
Thanks to everyone that came out to the meeting yesterday. Dr. Crookes was amazing, and we were happy he was able to come out and talk to us
Feel free to give us feedback, ie what you liked/didn't enjoy about the lecture @ ssig.usc@gmail.com.

SSIG Dinner
We're inviting SSIG members and Faculty to a casual dinner on Monday Nov 17 at 3:30pm. Its an early dinner, but its been getting dark early, so if you think about it, its really a perfect time to have dinner. Please check your emails, you should have received an evite - let us know if you did not. We would like to get an idea of how many people will be attending. This is the first chance SSIG members may have to meet their mentor before shadowing. It will be right after PPM on Monday. And yes, I will send out 18 reminder emails.
